Your membership in PRABC supports our efforts to mitigate the impact of British Columbia’s Short-Term Rental Accommodations Act (October 2023).

We believe the Act infringes on our Property Rights and the Association is actively engaged in lobbying both municipal and provincial government, as well as investigating any legal recourse.

Where Does My Membership Fee Go?

  • Advocacy at the municipal, provincial and federal levels, which includes lobbying, presentations and coordinating letter-writing campaigns
  • Legal Phase One: This has been a two level approach, starting in October 2023 retaining Cox Taylor the leaders in property law to do the legal research into the B.C. government's new STR Act set to come into effect May 1, 2024. Complete.​
  • Legal Phase Two: Fundraising is now underway to raise the funds needed to move forward and challege the STR Act of behalf of all of BC's lawfully operating STR properties in the event that advocacy efforts are unsuccessful
  • Data Research and analysis to provide factual support for our positions, including Freedom of Information (FOI) requests
  • Resources to support lobbying and advocacy efforts
  • ​​Campaigns: creating graphics videos, advertising, social media
  • ​​Operating Costs: (banking fees, website hosting etc).
